Drishti for Linux and MacOSX

Background

Drishti is a volume visualization tool developed by Ajay Limaye at the Australian National University Vizlab. The home page for Drishti is :

This page provides information on how to install Drishti on various operating systems/distributions other than Windows XP. For installing Drishti on Windows XP, please see the main Drishti web-page at the above link.

Fedora Core 6 and 7 (x86 and x86_64)

A yum repository has been setup for Drishti. The easiest way to install Drishti is to follow these steps:

1. As superuser, open the file /etc/yum.repos.d/drishti.repo with a text editor.
2. Enter the following lines into the file and then save the file and exit the text editor.

[drishti]
name=Drishti $releasever - $basearch
baseurl=http://sf.anu.edu.au/~rph900/Fedora/core/$releasever/$basearch/
enabled=1
gpgcheck=0

3. As superuser, run yum install Drishti

You can uninstall Drishti using the yum remove Drishti and update to a newer version of Drishti using yum upgrade Drishti.

Notes

• The glmedia dependency requires ffmpeg. The easiest way to obtain ffmpeg is via the livna repositories by executing the following commands as root (replacing 7 with 6 if you're running Fedora Core 6):

  > rpm -ivh http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release-7.rpm
  > yum install ffmpeg
  

• For Fedora Core 6, Drishti is built statically linked to wxWidgets 2.8 as this version is not available through yum.
• Since the early releases of Drishti, GLEW has been added as a standard package which may cause problems when upgrading. If you receive errors relating to GLEW dependencies, the solution is to uninstall Drishti and GLEW and then reinstall. The version of GLEW in the standard package is 1.4.0, whereas the version that was previously packaged was 1.3.4. Please ensure that you have 1.4.0 installed.
• The drishti.repo file needs a minor modification to that which was previously on the webpage, the base at the end of the baseurl line needs to be replaced with $basearch.

Notes

• Last updated 27th November 2007.
• The Drishti log is iconized as it can cause disabling of the main Drishti Menu when it is brought to the front
• There are some issues with Point Sets under MacOSX that cause Drishti to crash.
• Keyboard shortcuts are not handled very well.
