Visualization
To better understand the mechanisms being modeled by the ANU-CTM,
sophisticated visualization techniques were utilized to produce an
animated graphical representation of the data. An isosurface (a
surface of constant value) of the radioactive tracer concentration at
25% dilution is extracted from the original concentration data. This
surface is then rendered over the earths topography. The height scale
is exaggerated to show the topographic and field data more clearly.
We used Vis-5D
package produced by the Space Science
and Engineering Center to visualize the simulation results in
real-time on a Silicon Graphics Oynx Reality Engine workstation
provided the ANU
Supercomputer Facility Vizlab. A series of images were produced,
one per day of the simulation. The images were then compiled into
movies suitable for viewing on the World Wide Web.
