The cover image is a three dimensional reconstruction
of the site of transmitter release from a sympathetic nerve onto
a rat iris blood vessel as viewed with an electron microsope.
The model of this structure is reconstructed from a series of
slices through the nerve photographed with a transmission electron
microscope. The images were digitized and processed to recover
the three dimensional structure using advanced visualization techniques
developed at ANU.
This work is a collaboration between Shaun Sandow
(JCSMR), Caryl Hill (JCSMR) and Drew Whitehouse (ANUSF).
