We approximate the shape of the potassium channel by
rotating the closed curve around the symmetrical, z-axis,
by 360 degrees. The channel is composed of two segments -
A wide segment of length 28 angstrom lined with
hydrophobic amino acids extending towards the
intracellular space -
and a narrow selectivity filter with approximate length 12
angstrom and diameter 2.8 angstrom extending towards the
extracellular space.
The selectivity filter is formed by 4 identical peptide
chains - Here we show two of these chains.
Each is chain composed of glycine, tyrosine, valine and
threonine residues.
