ANU Applied Mathematics Professor Stephen Hyde studies the intrinsic hyperbolic geometry of minimal surfaces with applications to unusual crystal structures of real materials.
Many of these 3D lattices are difficult to understand through conventional 2D images, and building them as solid models would be too cumbersome.
