IO PE Upgrade and filesystems

There are now two IO PEs on the systems.
PEs 0-6 (this is called IPL group 0) use PE0 for IO and system operations.
PEs 7-12 (IPL group 1) use PE12 for IO and system operations.
All user filesystems are "globally visible" and can be referenced from any PE.
In particular, /home is unique on the system.
/short* and /vflvol* The one complication is that there are now two /short* filesystems and two /vflvol* filesystems, one for each IOPE. To clarify the matter /vfllocal on PE0 is globally known as /vflvol0 while /vfllocal on PE12 is globally known as /vflvol1. (Note that occassionally /vfllocal is occassionally referred to as /vflvol and is an historical term which means the same) So if you refer to /vfllocal, you will access the filesystem in the IPL group you are running on. However /vflvol0 or /vflvol1 can be accessed globally by referring to their directory specifically as /vflvol0 or /vflvol1
However we have made /short appear globally transparent as you would on a normal UNIX system.

Memory Upgrade and NQS queues

Five of the PEs (PEs 7 to 11) now have 2GBs of memory of which users can access 1920MBs. To access more than 416MB, you will need to submit to the bigmem queue. Please DO NOT ask for excessive amounts of memory - only what you need!
